ADL Saddened By Mosque Fire

  • December 26, 2015

Houston, TX, December 26, 2015….-The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is saddened by and concerned about a fire at the Savoy Mosque that arson investigators are calling “suspicious.”

ADL is monitoring the investigation and is confident law enforcement officers will treat it appropriately and bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice.

“This fire is disturbing,” said ADL Associate Director Dena Marks, “and it comes at a time when Muslims in our country are being targeted  more and more.  We are confident investigators can get to the bottom of this.  If they believe it is a hate crime, we know they will provide evidence from their investigation to prosecutors, and we hope prosecutors will treat it as such.”

“ADL has reached out to Houston’s Muslim community and we hope this is not another incident in the distressing trend of anti-Muslim incidents in the United States,”  Marks added.  “This reminds us how important it is to have strong hate crime laws and to support ADL’s #50StatesAgainstHate efforts to strengthen those laws and make sure there are hate crime laws in all fifty states.”
