Stephen B. Bright, a Yale Law School Professor and President and Senior Council at the Southern Center for Human Rights, will speak on “The Death Penalty for the Marginalized—and the Complicity that Makes it Possible,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 in Courtroom 11-B at the Houston Federal Courthouse, 515 Rusk Avenue, Houston, TX 77002.
Bright has taught and written about legal representation for economically disadvantaged people accused of crimes, about capital punishment, racial discrimination in the criminal courts, human rights in prisons and jails, and judicial independence. He has argued death penalty cases successfully before juries and state and federal appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court, where he won reversals of two capital cases because of racial discrimination in jury selection.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are required by July 09. You may RSVP by clicking here.
