No one should be scapegoated because of who they are or where they come from. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) urges Texans to fight all forms of bias, including hate incidents, hate crimes, Xenophobia, and discrimination against the AAPI Community. The fatal attacks in Atlanta underscore the dangerous intersection of misogyny and extremism, and we are united with all our Asian American brothers and sisters in standing up against this hate and violence.
ADL Southwest looks forward to continuing its work with leaders of Houston’s AAPI community, including OCA Greater Houston, as part of the ADL’s Working Group on Coronavirus Hate. Together, we helped the cities of Houston and San Antonio, as well as Fort Bend County, stand up against COVID-19 hate and will now seek the passage of two U.S. Congressional resolutions condemning all forms of anti-Asian sentiment related to COVID-19.
This week ADL, the world’s leading anti-hate organization, issued a joint statement with the Committee of 100 and is actively promoting the #ProtectAllPeople anti-Asian hate social media campaign.
Many thanks to OCA Greater Houston for organizing today’s vigil and rally. May the lives of those lost always be remembered; may our strength to confront the hatred which fueled their deaths be enhanced by our unity.
Thank you,
