Re: Upcoming Jewish Holidays – Academic Consideration Request
Dear [Principal/Teacher/Counselor Name],
I am writing to inform you that my child, __________________________________ (student’s full name), will be observing the upcoming Jewish High Holidays.
– Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Sunday, September 22 and ends the evening of Tuesday, September 24.
– Yom Kippur begins the evening of Tuesday, October 1 and ends at sundown on Wednesday, October 2.
During these days, our family will be observing religious traditions, and my child will not be able to attend school, complete homework, study, or participate in extracurricular activities.
I respectfully request the following accommodations:
• No new assignments, tests, or major deadlines be scheduled on these days
• My child be marked with a “religious observation” absence
• Consideration be given to makeup work and academic expectations following these observances
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a national anti-hate organization, has also shared this guidance with district leadership to ensure broader awareness and sensitivity around these dates.
Thank you for your understanding and support. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
