ADL Sends Letter Thanking Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia for Anti-Discrimination Policy

  • November 22, 2013

The ADL’s Southwest Region sent a letter to Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia thanking him for his participation in Houston in Concert Against Hate, and for implementing a policy in the Sheriff’s Office prohibiting discrimination or harassment of any kind based on sexual orientation or gender identity in the inmate population and the office’s workplace.  The policy also outlines how inmates will be searched and housed, and allows transgender individuals to be housed based on the gender they identify with instead of their biological sex.

Sheriff Garcia was one of the presenters of Centennial Medallions at Houston in Concert Against Hate.  He placed medallions on Senator Rodney Ellis, Representative Senfronia Thompson, and the children of James Byrd, Jr.
