The No Place for Hate® Luncheon honors three Region IV educators with the Walter Kase Teacher Excellence Award for their outstanding efforts to create a school atmosphere that promotes respect for and understanding of diversity. In 2016, we celebrate 15 years of the No Place for Hate® Initiative, which has touched hundreds of thousands of lives in schools across South Texas.
The No Place for Hate® Initiative, the Southwest Region’s signature education initiative, empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry. Over 350 public, private and charter schools from 27 school districts earned the 2014-2015 No Place for Hate® Initiative designation. Over 400 schools have applied for the designation in the 2015-2016 school year. Walter Kase, a Polish-born Holocaust survivor, spent the years 1942-1945 in five different concentration camps. For over 25 years, Walter tirelessly shared his story about the dangers of prejudice and bigotry and the importance of love, respect, and understanding with youth, educators, and the broader community throughout the state of Texas. We are honored to name our Teacher Excellence Award in memory of Walter, a man who did so much to promote respect for all people.
