ADL Calls Galveston City Council Member’s Hitler Parody Insensitive, Inappropriate

  • January 30, 2015

Houston, TX, January 29, 2015–The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) calls Galveston City Council Member Norman Pappous’ video depicting a meeting about the city’s Land Development Regulations as a meeting between Adolf Hitler and top Nazis insensitive and inappropriate, and asks that Council Member Pappous remove the video from his YouTube channel and apologize for it.

“We recognize that Council Member Pappous has the right to criticize city processes and representatives of Galveston’s government, but invoking the Holocaust and comparing city officials to Adolf Hitler and Nazis is never appropriate and never acceptable.  Invoking the Holocaust or Hitler is an affront to the Galveston city officials involved, to Jews, other victims of hate and genocide, and to many Americans who fought bravely against the Nazis,”  said ADL Regional Director Martin B. Cominsky.  “We find the timing of the video’s posting particularly offensive, so soon after the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz,”  Cominsky added.  “We hope Council Member Pappous will realize that, take the video down, and issue an apology.”
