The shocking attack on Jews praying at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue reminds us of the importance and relevance of the work we do. We have been redoubling our efforts in the fight against anti-Semitism and all other kinds of hate, and we are dedicated to preventing atrocities like the Pittsburgh attack.
Here is a wrap-up of what we did right after the Pittsburgh shooting, and an idea of how we’re moving forward.
- ADL helped with two vigils. One involved the Houston Rabbinical Association, the Jewish Federation, the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center (ERJCC), Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston and ADL. It was attended by 1500 people. The other was coordinated by Congregation Beth El in Missouri City.
- ADL communicated with four law enforcement agencies: the Houston Police Department, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Precinct 1 Constable’s office, and the FBI.
- We interacted with two Jewish Federations (San Antonio and Houston), the Houston ERJCC, 15 synagogues, and the Houston Rabbinical Association.
- Information was sent to 365 No Place for Hate Schools.
- We appeared in about a dozen news/media interviews and appearances.
