ADL’s 2016 Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Luncheon was a touching, inspiring event that raised $471,390 as of the luncheon date and communicated ADL’s message to 600 people. The luncheon included a tribute to honoree Harry Reasoner of Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P. by Professor of Law Emeritus and Emeritus President of the University of California, former Chancellor of the University of Texas System and former Dean of the University of Texas School of Law, Mark Yudof. Yudof said about Reasoner: “In the field of law and his more than 50 years at Vinson & Elkins, including his stint as managing partner, his career has been remarkable. Harry is an awesome trial lawyer and also a brilliant appellate advocate.”
Reasoner spoke beautifully about why he’s at the forefront of fighting prejudice and hatred: “Lawyers should be citizens and have an obligation to give back…. I believe discrimination based on prejudice is one of the most profound problems our world and our country face,” Reasoner said. “I think the ADL has a vital role to play dealing with mindless and destructive hate, and Macey and I are proud to support it and the values it holds for the world.” Kudos to ADL Development Assistant Angela Atlas for putting together a fantastic event, Event Chairs Robert Carlton and Nicole Soussan for all their hard work, and to the ADL Development Team for surpassing its goal.
The event also received coverage in Culturemap.
