ADL Concerned About White Supremacist Speech at Texas A&M University

  • November 23, 2016

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is concerned about plans for white supremacist Richard Spencer to speak at Texas A&M University and is working with student leaders and others at A&M to prepare for his appearance.

“We know about Richard Spencer’s planned appearance at Texas A&M and we are providing background and resources to students and concerned individuals and groups at the university as needed,” said ADL Southwest Regional Director Dayan Gross.

“One only has to read recent news reports to understand that Spencer’s message is a hateful one,” Gross said.   “A&M’s student government has made it clear his message of bigotry is unwelcome on the campus and we are confident it will be rejected by the community.  We urge people to stay away from Spencer’s  appearance.”

Some of the resources ADL is providing to students at A&M include ADL’s blog post on Spencer and background on the Alt-Right movement.  Spencer coined the term “Alternative Right.”

In the meantime, ADL is urging everyone to take a pledge  to #StandUp against Hate and #Standup for Respect and to share that pledge with friends and family via Facebook and Twitter.
